/Missouri News Articles/ - KANSAS CITY, MO, July 11, 2008 - The sun shined on KCRiverFest, lighting the way for more than 35,000 attendees to the two-day Independence Day festival at Berkley Riverfront Park.

"KCRiverFest 2008 undeniably had a wonderful mix of good weather, great entertainment and support from the business and civic community," said Chris Gutierrez, event chairperson. "We had enthusiastic volunteers, corporate sponsors, vendors and entertainers. Everyone pulled together to give Kansas City the Fourth of July celebration it deserves."

Presented by KCTV 5 & myKSMO TV, KCRiverFest is "Kansas City's Riverfront Tradition." The popular event supports Friends of the River - Kansas City, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement and development of the riverfront.

Gutierrez reported that he and event staff spoke with numerous visitors from outside Kansas City as well as local citizens who were excited at the expanded children's area and the local bands.

KCRiverFest opened at 4 p.m. on Thursday July 3rd and concluded with an 18 minute fireworks show by Zambelli at 10 p.m. July 4. Gutierrez reported few problems aside from some wind damage to tents and the main stage the night before the event opened. "We had everything put right within hours of opening July 3rd," he said. Weather for July 3rd and 4th was mild and mostly sunny, with gentle breezes and temperatures in the low 80s.

"We are very encouraged by the turnout and are beginning work for KCRiverFest 2009, he added. "I hope this year's phenomenal event will encourage more participation from the corporate and civic sectors, as well as the general public."
