/Missouri News Articles/ - Branson, MO, September 05, 2008 - Soccer, baseball, swimming and biking are what most boys age six enjoy. However, Skyler Sanders' focus has been much different this year. Radiation, chemotherapy and needles have been some of the painful things Skyler has experienced in the last few months. Skyler has set the mark in bravery, heroism, courage and doctor appointments. Skyler age six, has a disease called Brain Stem Glioma, a inoperable malignant brain tumor. Pontine brain stem tumors affect the cranial nerves, causing symptoms related to the nerves that supply the muscles of the eye and face, and muscles involved in swallowing as well as weakness of the arms and legs.

Melissa Sanders, mother of Skyler, noticed in early May a significant change in her sons' behavior. In addition to being emotional he was falling down for no apparent reason and his behavior was not normal. The family realized they needed to seek help for Skyler. Soon after the diagnosis came, Skyler started having tests and treatments for his illness. Their faith, family, friends and doctors have been the antidote to get them through the difficult journey they face. A life that once seemed normal is now a roller coaster ride that will change their lives forever. Medical bills and expenses have started mounting as the journey takes a toll on the families budget.

Branson Sunset Inn a bed and breakfast in Branson announced today they will do a wine tasting and art sale event on September 20, 2008 in order to raise money for medical bills for a family who have been a pillar in the community of Branson. "Skylers' grandparents, Dale Sanders family, John Dees family, and Dean Harmon family, have been strong leaders in the community for years." said Adena Delillo, manager of the Inn. " We wanted to create an opportunity for the community to give back to the family and offer financial support for a young boy with courage beyond belief." The benefit will kick off at 2:00 pm with music, wine and artwork that will raise funds for the family.
