Missouri Recruits Two Companies, Hundreds of Jobs, in Just Three Days
Austria-based Alpla creates 50 to 100 new Missouri jobs, while 500 new jobs are anticipated by Jet Midwest Consolidation


ST. LOUIS, MO, June 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Missouri Partnership and regional development teams in the state have successfully finalized deals with Austria-based Alpla, Inc. and Jet Midwest (of Kansas City, Ks.) The two deals promise to bring approximately 600 new jobs to Missouri.

"Missouri is continually recognized as one of the best places to do business in the nation and we are pleased to have Alpla join the more than 200 internationally-owned firms who have found the resources they needed for success in Missouri," said Governor Jay Nixon. "This is a great time for the State, as we also just announced that Jet Midwest will consolidate to the Kansas City International Airport, bringing approximately 500 jobs to the region."

Alpla, a privately-held manufacturer of plastic packaging solutions, has selected St. Peters, Missouri for its new manufacturing facility. An existing building there will house the new 83,500-square-foot plant and can be easily adapted for future expansions. Alpla, which begins operation next month, is currently recruiting 50 to 100 workers and investing $12 to $16 million in the facility. Within 10 years, the company is expected to grow to 150 employees and to increase investment to $25 million.

The Missouri Partnership was joined by the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association (RCGA), the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the City of St. Peters and the Economic Development Center of St. Charles County in bringing Alpla to Missouri.

On the other side of the state, Jet Midwest will be consolidating its U.S. operations at the KCI Overhaul Base at Kansas City International Airport. Jet Midwest will lease a portion of the base for engine and aircraft maintenance and repair, along with other approved ancillary functions.

Jet Midwest will take over space formerly occupied by American Airlines, part of an aggressive economic development plan to mix aeronautical and non-aeronautical tenants. According to the Kansas City Aviation Department, the Jet Midwest deal will add 500 new jobs over a five-year period.
