N-FUZE Improves the Thermoplastic Welding Process for PVC Linings
ST. LOUIS, MO, November 05, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- GOAD COMPANY announced today that international corrosion engineering society, NACE International, has published an article that features GOAD'S development of a new welding technique used with flexible PVC linings.
The story, published in the October edition of Materials Performance, reports on an improved welding process for polyvinyl chloride linings (PVC) developed by GOAD that, "helps prevent aggressive chemicals from seeping behind a plastic lining and attacking the underlying substrate."
The article contrasts the decades old hot gas/hot air welding technique with the new patent-pending welding method and carried out by a machine. The old traditional welding method, carried out by hand, relies on seams and strips to seal the joints between sheets. This approach leaves perfect channels and gaps at these intersections behind the tank lining. If the hot air sealing isn't executed perfectly or a leak occurs and contained solution reaches these gaps, the solution is now free to flow behind the entire lining system and corrode the substrate.
GOAD COMPANY CEO Curtis Goad, who was interviewed for the story, revealed that the new N-FUZE welding technology is based on the much higher quality and more consistent extrusion welding process used on rigid plastics. The article goes on to point out that the major benefit of the machine welding being that it produces an extrudant that, "infuses into the substrate's pores and voids as well as joins the PVC sheet lining."
